WHAT DOES RIGHT TO RENT MEAN?
Based on the 2014 Immigration Act new restrictions are enforced on illegal immigrants by removing access to rented accommodation in England. Before an adult is provided tenancy, they need to go through a Right to Rent check.
WHAT DOES THIS CHECK ENTAIL?
It represents a copy of your documentation and your right to be in England. It can be your original passport, your ID or your visa or your birth certificate. These documents are copied, and a record is kept that the check has been completed successfully.
CAN YOU GET RENT WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION?
Legally you cannot be provided with tenancy if you don’t have documentation. All adults registering to live at a property must have gone through a Right to Rent check. Even if one member of the group fails the check, tenancy could be denied for the whole party.
